Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 16th Lecture (ca. 1799): "145. Purple Capped Lory. almost black on the top of the head but tending to clearer purple on the back part; neck and body red, with green wings; some psots of yellow on the front of the neck and wings, the latter edged with a fine blue. Psittacus Domicella Linn. Lori des Indes orientales Buff. pl. enl. 84. Purple-capped Lory, Lath. I. 2. p. 271. No. 77. Secon[d] Black cap Lory Edw. av. 4. t. 171 It is a native of the Molucca Islands and New Guinea. they are very tame, and said to be very eliquent, when transported short lived. It is much assimilated to No. 136 [i.e., Red Lory Eos bornea], except in some of the colours." (Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University Archives, coll. 40)

A mounted specimen of "Psittacus domicilla (Blue Cap Lory)" was listed in "A Catalogue of Duplicate Specimens...", May 1822. [unpublished] American Philosophical Society Library (Mss.B.P31).
