Notes:

The Alderney was a breed of dairy cattle originating from the British Channel Island of Alderney. Peale may have acquired the skull from Reuben Haines, who had recently improrted the breed from England. See Haines, "On Alderney Cattle and the Extraordinary Properties of Their Milk," Memoirs of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Society (1824): 20-22.

Richard Harlan (1796-1843), M.D. was appointed the Museum's professor of comparative anatomy in April 1821.
