Aurora (Philadelphia) 28 Nov 1806 reads: "Large and uncommon Baboon (alive) from the E Indies -- this curious animal is mild and gentle, but impatient and prodigiously powerful."
Notes:
No baboon species are native to Indonesia. Evidently the Museum's specimen originated elsewhere (most likely in Africa) and was taken to the East Indies by the American ship.
