Object Status:

Extant

Accession Date:

28 August 1792

Primary Source Reference:

Dunlap's American Daily Advertiser, 28 August 1792.

Additional Source Text:

On 28 August 1792, a notice in Dunlap's American Daily Advertiser (Philadelphia) mentioned Mr. Plumstead's donation of "A pair of ground peroquets, very small and beautiful, from the Streight's [sic] of Sunda."

Notes:

The identity of the "ground peroquets" from Plumstead is uncertain. They may be one of the hanging-parrots (Loriculus sp.) based on their small size. The Sunda Strait lies between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra and connects the Java Sea to the Indian Ocean. The donor may have been Philadelphia merchant George Plumsted (1765-1805) / https://www.pafa.org/museum/collection/item/george-plumstead
