Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 16th Lecture (ca. 1799): "144. Botany Bay Little Lory. I have given it this name for the present, as my corrispondent in London sent it to me, as coming from that country. The Bill is smaller than the Parrakeets, and more pointed, and the tail a little conic. Characters belonging to the Lory's. The general colour is green, forehead red and a spot of red on each cheek. The quills are brown on the inner feathers, on the outer green. It is about 11 Inches long." (Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University Archives, coll. 40)
