"It was found in Rough Creek, State of Kentucky, and is supposed to be a petrified Deer's ham. The lower part of the Leg and foot of which was unfortunately broken off and lost in getting it out of the bottom of the Creek, being attached to a rock which lay under it. The person who found it, states that the Leg was entire and the Hoof as natural as the nails on his finger. Natches Mississippi Territory."
The donor was a "merchant residing in . . . Natches."
