"The curious fish which has excited so much attention at Easton, Maryland, and which was taken in Mr. Goldsborough's seine, is well known to naturalists. It belongs to the genus TRICHIURUS; and is the T. Lepturus of Linnæus, Syst. Nat. p. 409, and the silver Trichiure, T. Argenteus, of Dr. Shaw, Gen. Zool. vol. 4, p. 90, plate 12. It is likewise figured and described in Dr. Block's splendid Ornithology [i.e., Ichthyology], and in the Count La Cepede's Histoire Naturell des Poissons. There is a fine specimen of this species in Peale's Museum."
