"When this fish was found, a number of stones were appended to strings or ligaments that projected from the front of its head, which occasioned a conjecture, as it is not furnished with sufficient fins to resist the violence of the tides and currents, that it fastened with these ligaments on whatever it found at the bottom; so that the stones answered the purpose of anchors; and the ligaments of a glutinous sticky nature, that of cables. Some of the stones are in the same phial."
