"And which so strongly impregnates the river that salt has been made of its water at a considerable distance down."

"The indians made use of this salt by holding a lump of it (tied to a cord) in their Kettle while boiling, a time sufficient to salt the meat. 'tis said to be found in great quantities, also of a finer, or smaller grain, on the borders of the stream coming from the spring."
