"A hole is bore Thro' the middle to insert a handle & as smooth & regular as if done with [an?] instrument it is nearly of the Same model with the fragment mentioned under august last but the Stone of this is of a mouse gray with Some dark veins of a very fine grain, & it is larger & very compleat it was dug four feet underground at the place where Col. Proctor of the artillery was erecting a battery against the ennemy in October last at Great Egg Harbor on the coast of New Jersy, & by him presented."

The donor, Thomas Proctor or Thomas Procter (1739-1806), commanded the 4th Continental Artillery Regiment during the American Revolution.
