The donor, John Christopher Kunze (1744-1807), was an educator, author, theologian, and minister of St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran congregations in Philadelphia. A detailed inventory of his coin and medal collection was published in the Medical Repository and Review of American Publications on Medicine, vol. 3 (New York, 1801): 331-339, eds. Samuel Latham Mitchill and Edward Miller. It was reprinted in the Proceedings and Papers of the Forty-Ninth Annual Meeting, 1907 of the American Numismatic and Archaeological Society.
