In his Natural History Lecture No. 4 (1799), Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Peale wrote: "These large Jaws, can readily embrace the head of a Man, and those large cavities on each side being filled with strong muscles, give amazing power to the grip of the Animal. The small cavity for the brains, bespeak it to be an Animal of no great intelligence."
