Notes:

There are four species of three-toed sloths, arboreal neotropical mammals (also known as "three-fingered" sloths) that are the only members of the genus Bradypus and the family Bradypodida. The type species is Bradypus tridactylus.

Richard Harlan (1796-1843), M.D., was an American paleontologist, anatomist, and physician. He was appointed the Peale Museum's professor of comparative anatomy in April 1821.
