United States Gazette (Philadelphia), 7 Feb 1806 reads: "An elegant polished agate . . ." and identifies the donor as "of England."

Notes:

Agate is cryptocrystalline quartz. Museums now label agate specimens as quartz (variety agate).

The donor was William Smith (1769-1839), known as the "Father of English Geology."
