Notes:
The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, Harvard University, acquired many objects in 1899 from Moses Kimball's Boston Museum. Kimball and P. T. Barnum jointly purchased many of the Peale collections when they were sold about 1849. This war club (Object number 99-12-10/52985) may have come from the Peale Museum.
Gen. James Wilkinson (1757-1825) was Senior Officer of the U.S. Army at the time of this donation. He was later the first governor of the Louisiana Territory. Peale painted Wilkinson's portrait for the Peale Museum in 1797.
