Object Status:
Unlocated
Accession Date:
April 27, 1809
Primary Source Reference:
Peale Museum Accessions Book, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, p. 40
Additional Source Text:
"The effect produced by this, was printing one part of the same letter in one colour and the other in a different. Red & Black were employed by the United States."
Notes:
Rather than two parts of an individual letter being printed in two colors, on the face of Continental bills portions of the emblem and the left border were printed in red, the balance of the face being printed in black, as can be seen in this example of a $3 bill dated 14 Jan 1779. It is not clear what kind of "apparatus" the Peale Museum received.
