Notes:
Du Simitière's print may have been this etching of 1738 by Carl Marcus Tuscher (1705-1751), which Fuseli called L'Amant vieillard (the old lover). Tuscher, a German painter and printmaker, made a copy of this print is reverse while he stayed in London in 1743; that version carries the legend: "Un Vecchio che d'Amor caldo non sente / Interrompe il Piacer d'un Core amante / Che in dolci note al Caro Ben d'avante / Cerca Spiegar la Fiamma Sua cocente."
