"A ton and a half of Ore will yeld one ton of pig-metal this mine is described in my memorandums of nat. & artif. curiosities of N. America from the information of Mr. Backhous, one of the owners."
Notes:
The Durham furnace was built in 1727 and remained in operation for 70 years. It produced pig and bar iron and during the American Revolution cannons, ballshot, and other military equipment. In Aug 1779 the furnace was sold to Col. Richard Backhouse, a justice of the peace in Bucks County, and three associates. They operated the furnace until 1789.
