Sundry Minerals, found in Scotland

Object Status:

Unlocated

Accession Date:

February 7, 1791

Primary Source Reference:

Dunlap's American Daily Advertiser (Philadelphia), 7 Feb 1791

Additional Source Text:

The donor was identified as from Dorset County, Md.

Also listed in New-Hampshire Spy (Portsmouth), 23 Feb 1791

Notes:

This probably was a selection of minerals (including ores). The one item most likely to be included in this is smoky quartz called cairngom, very prevalent in Scotland.

The donor may have been Dr. William Worthington Davis (d. 1795), a Scot, of Dorchester County, Md.; there is no Dorset County.
