Notes:

Herbert Appold Grueber, A Guide to the Exhibition of English Medals (London, 1891), p. 89, attributes the piece to Jan Boskam, while the British Museum identifies the maker as John Croker (1670-1741).

In 1702, during the War of Spanish Succession against the French, General John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), in a very short time captured Kaiserwerth, Venloo, Ruremonde, Stevenswart, and Liège.
