"NB the general at the request of the Hon. Mr Jay President of congress, came with him to my house this morning & condescended with great good nature to Sit about 3/4 of an hour for the above likeness, having but little time to Spare being the last day of his stay in town."

A profile portrait of Washington (1732-1799) by Du Simitière was one of fourteen engraved and published in Paris by Benoît-Louis Prévost (ca. 1735-ca. 1804) in 1781 as Collection des Portraits des Généraux, Ministres & Magistrats qui se sont rendus célèbres dans la Révolution des Treize Etats-Unis de l'Amerique Septentrionale.
