"The Stone point 13 inches the wood varnished black & cut in ornaments the blade with Some rude ornaments on it, it is Said to be from the Spaniards of South America but I think it is an East India weapon on account of the varnishing of the wood."

The donor, Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800), was an American merchant, soldier, and politician from Philadelphia. He was the first Governor of Pennsylvania (1790 to 1799).
