Notes:

This was most likely the skin of a bobcat, the only wildcat species that inhabits Pennsylvania. On 23 Mar 1821 the Museum received from T. R. Peale "2 Drawings of Wild Cats (unfinished)" from the Long Expedition, and on 1 Apr 1822 it accessioned a "Living Wild Cat." William Hamilton (1745–1813), owner of the Woodlands mansion on the west bank of the Schuylkill River outside Philadelphia, was a noted botanist whose greenhouse included more than 10,000 species of plants, including the first specimens introduced into America of several species as well as plants grown from seeds harvested during the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
