Notes:
In his "Walk through the Phil[adelphi]a Museum" (1805-1806), p. 19, Peale wrote that the wolf "is an American Species. These are not so fierce and dangerous as those of Europe. It is a singular trait in the character of the Wolf, that the instant he is entraped he becomes submissive, will suffer himself to be led with a handkerchief or String without making the least resistance."
