Charles Willson Peale (1741-1827) wrote, in his 20th Lecture (ca. 1799): "403. Black and Yellow Creeper. Size of a wren; the head black; back, wings and taik brown; throat cenereous; the under part of the body yellow; on each side of the head a stripe of white; beginning at the base of the Bill, and passing over the Eyes to the hind head; wings barred with white; wing & tail quills dark; feet cinereous colour. Certhia flavola Linn; Black & Yellow Creeper Edw. III. pl. 122. The Bahama Titmouse Catesby I. 59. Le Sucrier Buff. Inhabits Jamaca and is said that its ordinary food is the sweet viscous juce of the sugar cane, which it sucks through the cracks of the cane. Mr. Buffon was of opinion that it also eat Insects."
