Grand Caverns, formerly known as Weyer's Cave, is located in the central Shenandoah Valley in the town of Grottoes, Va. A limestone cavern, it is America's oldest show cave, in operation since 1806, and is now a National Natural Landmark.

Draperies or curtains are thin, wavy sheets of calcite hanging downward in caves.

Stephen Elliott (1771-1830), a Yale graduate, was a legislator, banker, educator, and botanist of Beaufort, South Carolina. He was the author of A Sketch of the Botany of South-Carolina and Georgia, 2 vols. (Charleston, 1821-1824).
