"Which was brought [to Peale] from the island of Luconia [Luzon], one of the principal Philipian [Philippine] Islands. The woods consist of 133 specimens, all of the growth of that island. This is a foundation of what, in some future day, will probably compose a valuable article of this repository. Some gentlemen living in the vicinity of the city who have seen them, have undertaken to prepare as many specimens of American Woods as they can procure, in size 4 inches long, 2 inches wide, and three and a half in thickness, with one side polished, with duplicate specimens of the same, containing the bark on one side or edge, as the subject may require."
The Museum apparently never received such a collection.
Notes:
Carlos Martínez de Irujo y Tacón (1763-1824) was Spanish minister to the United States 1796-1802.
