Two types of Indian peace medals were minted during George III's reign; both are pictured here.
After the Seven Years' War ended in 1763, Native American leaders in the Great Lakes area began asking the British to replace their now obsolete French flags, certificates, and medals. To meet demand, early “Happy While United” medals were made in New York City and widely distributed. See Joseph A. Mussulman and Kristopher K. Townsend, "Peace Medals: Tools of diplomacy and trade" at https://lewis-clark.org/trail-diplomacy/peace-medals/
The second type was minted in London.
Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) and William Clark (1770-1838) undertook their western Expedition in 1804-1806.
