Notes:

This report by Dr. Clement Sanford (d. 1832), who was "of Wicomico Lower Ferry, Somerset County, Maryland," was dated 26 November 1805 and relates his treatment of a woman who vomited the various worms and bugs he sent to John Redman Coxe (1773-1864). At the end of the published account Coxe added a note that "These bugs are deposited in Mr. Peale's Museum"; the acquisition is recorded in the Accessions Book, pp. 13-14.
