Notes:

The donor, Thomas V. Wiesenthal, a native of Germany, studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1811-1812 and was a U.S. Navy surgeon. A medical and surgical journal he kept in 1816 while serving aboard the U.S. Frigate Java is in the New-York Historical Society. He left the navy in 1829.
