The Peale Museum recorded the receipt of eggs of the ostrich (Struthio camelus), native to Africa, on four occasions:

On this date from Bellvue Soisson, probably a French visitor to Philadelphia; on 15 Aug 1806 from Joseph Head; on 29 July 1812 from Philadelphia merchant Anthony Slater; and on 30 Sep 1822 from G. Fairman, Jr. Accessions Book, pp. 5, 17, 62, 121
