This specimen was one of 200 species of Ribes, a genus of flowering plants, most of them native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

Zaccheus Collins (1764-1831) was Philadelphia Quaker and philanthropist who was a plant collector and herbarium owner. He was a member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, the American Philosophical Society (where he served as a curator, as did Charles Willson Peale), and the Philadelphia Linnean Society.
