The Aurora. General Advertiser (Philadelphia), 28 Nov 1806, under the heading "Fragments or relics of Antique Drapery," notes that Dyer "was executed in Boston in the year 1660 because of her attachment to the principles of Friends."

Notes:

English-born Mary Dyer (born Marie Barrett; ca. 1611-1660) was an American Puritan turned Quaker who was hanged in Boston for repeatedly defying a Puritan law banning Quakers from the colony. She is one of the four executed Quakers known as the Boston martyrs.

Mary (Moore) Heston (Mrs. John) was a sister of Peale's third wife Hannah Moore (1755–1821).
