Baiae was a fashionable resort on the northwest shore of the Gulf of Naples where wealthy Romans built luxurious villas from 100 BC to AD 500.
George Ord (1781-1866) was a Philadelphia naturalist, ornithologist, and writer. He was an active member of the Academy of Natural Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
