Samuel Sparrow (fl. 1770-1806) was an English publisher, printer, and printmaker. A painter named Brandt has not been identified, nor is Sparrow known to have made a print after a Rembrandt work.
The donor, Charles Cist (1738-1805), was a Philadelphia printer. He was born in in St. Petersburg, Russia (birth name Thiel) and emigrated to America in 1769, settling in Philadelphia in 1773.
