Valentine Green (1739-1813), mezzotint after Benjamin West (1738-1820), The departure of Regulus from Rome (Regulus returning to Carthage) (London, 1771)

Object Status:

Unlocated

Accession Date:

March 1779

Primary Source Reference:

Du Simitière Letterbook, Library of Congress

Notes:

Du Simitière may have owned a copy of this print, because on 6 Mar 1779 he wrote to Isaac Zane, "There is no glass to be had here [Philadelphia] for the print of Regulus after Mr. West & that even in England they import plate glass from Holland to frame that print," although it is possible that Zane owned the print and had asked Du Simitière to procure glass for it. The print measure about 25 by 35 inches.
