The donor was Edward Duffield (1720–1801), a clock- and watchmaker of Philadelphia, 1741–1747, and later of Lower Dublin, Philadelphia Co. He made at least one clock for Benjamin Franklin, was a member of the American Philosphical Society, and was one of the executors of BF’s last will.
