Notes:

During the reign of Charles I (1625-1649), silver half-crown were issued, valued at 2 shillings sixpence. The ony two shilling coins issued during the reign were Scottish, an expample of which is pictured here.

The donor, Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800), was an American merchant, soldier, and politician from Philadelphia. He was the first Governor of Pennsylvania (1790 to 1799).
