Of the many breeds of domestic chicken in the Netherlands, one that has a particularly "curious crest" is Hollandse Kuifhoen, the Polish chicken (pictured here), the oldest accounts of which come from the Netherlands. Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800) was Quartermaster General of the Continental Army at the time this drawing was made and later was seventh President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania (1788-1790) and first governor of Pennsylvania (1790-1799).
